Hurricanes in elimination contest
In Omaha, Neb., No. 4 Florida pounded four home
runs in eliminating Miami 10-2 Wednesday evening in front of
24,033 fans at TD Ameritrade Park.
The Gators (51-17) will play Virginia on Friday
at 2 p.m. CT and must beat the Cavaliers twice to advance to
the CWS Championship Series. The Hurricanes end the season at
50-17.
Harrison Bader (2 for 4, 2 R) led off the game
with a dinger to center, his 16th, and Buddy Reed (2 for 5, 2
R, 3 RBI) belted a two-run shot later in the frame, his
fourth, as UF built an early 3-0 lead.
Jeremy Vasquez had a two-run double to cap a
four-run fifth as the Gators built a 7-0 advantage.
Richie Martin (3 for 5, 2
R) went deep for the sixth time in the sixth to make it 8-0
before the Hurricanes scored a pair on an error in the bottom
of the sixth.
Peter Alonso (2 for 5) capped the scoring with
a two-run bomb in the seventh to make the final 10-2. It was
his fourth homer of the season.
Alex Faedo (6-1) earned the win, going 5.0
innings with three hits, two runs (one earned), four walks and
seven strikeouts.
George Iskenderian went 2 for 4 with a double
and a run for Miami.
