Allen Leads Ole Miss over TCU

 

In Omaha, Neb., Will Allen delivered an RBI single in the top of the seventh to snap a 4-4 tie and carry Ole Miss past seventh-seeded TCU in front of fans at the College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park.

 

The Rebels (48-20) will face third-seeded Virginia on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. Ole Miss will have to defeat the Cavaliers twice to advance to the CWS championship series. The Horned Frogs finished the season at 48-18.

 

Auston Bousfield was hit by a pitch to start the seventh for the Rebels and moved to second on a base hit by Austin Anderson. Allen (3 for 5, 3 RBI) singled up the middle to plate Bousfield with the go-ahead run.

 

Allen had a two-out single in the ninth and scored on a double by Orvis (3 for 5, 2 RBI) to give Ole Miss an insurance run and a 6-4 lead.

 

Allen had a two-run double to cap a three-run third as Ole Miss took an early 3-0 lead.

 

TCU tied it with three in the fourth. Boomer White (2 for 3) had a run-scoring double, while Keaton Jones and Cody Jones both drew bases-loaded walks to knot the score at 3.

 

Orvis had a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth as Ole Miss reclaimed the lead at 4-3.

 

Kevin Cron (2 fir 4, 2 R) had a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth as TCU tied it at 4-4.

 

Josh Laxer (3-2, 2.2 IP, H, R, BB, 3 K) earned the win in relief, while Aaron Greenwood retired the final four hitters to record his fifth save.
