Towns drives in three as Virginia downs Liberty

Miami knocks off FGCU, South Carolina whips Wofford, Oregon wins

 

In Charlottesville, Va., Kenny Towns went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI as top-ranked Virginia defeated Liberty 8-2 Wednesday. The Cavaliers (38-9) scored multiple runs in three of the first four innings in building a 7-0 lead. Nate Irving and Mike Papi both had two hits, one run and one RBI for Virginia. Artie Lewicki (4-1) tossed seven scoreless innings with one hit, one walk and six strikeouts. Nick Lacik had a two-run triple in the eighth for the Flames (35-11).

 

No. 11 Miami 7, FGCU 3

In Coral Gables, Fla., Tyler Palmer went 3 for 5 with two RBI as Miami downed FGCU. The Hurricanes (35-14) scored in each of the first three innings. Brandon Lopez went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, while Alex Hernandez had two hits and two runs for Miami. Thomas Woodrey (4-0, 2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 K)  registered the win in relief. Colton Bottomley went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs for the Eagles (32-18).

 

No. 15 South Carolina 15, Wofford 1

In Columbia, S.C., Patrick Harrington drove in three as South Carolina whipped Wofford. DC Arendas went 2 for 3 with two walks, two runs and two RBI, while Grayson Greiner (2 for 3, 2 R) and Joey Pankake (1 for 2, 2 BB, 3 R) both homered for the Gamecocks (36-13). Curt Britt (3-0, 2 IP, 3 H, R, K) earned the win in relief. Seth Neeley homered for the Terriers (25-25).

 

No. 17 Oregon 3, Portland 2

In Portland, Ore., Tyler Baumgartner homered and drove in two as Oregon edged Portland. Baumgartner went deep in the top of the first and had a sacrifice fly in the sixth to snap a 2-2 tie. Kyle Garlick and Josh Graham both had two hits for the Ducks (35-14). Porter Clayton (1-1, 6 IP, 3 H, 2 UE, 4 BB, 2 K) earned the victory, while Trent Paddon (3 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K) recorded his first save. Kevin Wade went 2 for 3 with a walk for the Pilots (10-35).

 

No. 18 Rice 6, Houston Baptist 1

In Houston, Skyler Ewing homered and scored three runs as Rice defeated Houston Baptist at the Owls' Reckling Park. Connor Teykl went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Owls (32-15). Chase McDowell (4-4, 6.2 IP, 8 H, R, BB, 2 K) picked up the win. Curtis Jones had two hits and a run for the Huskies (22-23).

 

Clemson 1, High Point 0

In Clemson, S.C., Clate Schmidt tossed six scoreless innings as Clemson edged High Point. Schmidt (5-6) allowed four hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Matt Campbell pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save. The Tigers (30-19) scored the game's lone run in the third as Steven Duggar had a leadoff single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Boulware. Alex Gross drew a pair of walks for the Panthers (25-19).
