Miami Nips FAU to Stretch Win Streak to 13 Games

Virginia tops W&M, The Citadel outscores South Carolina, Alabama wins

 

In Coral Gables, Fla., Javi Salas (left) tossed five scoreless innings as No. 16 Miami (Fla.) edged Florida Atlantic 2-1 Wednesday evening in front of 2,224 fans at Mark Light Field to extend its win streak to 13. Salas (3-3) scattered four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Bryan Garcia gave up a run in the ninth, but struck out two in recording his 11th save. Johnny Ruiz had a two-run double in the second for the Hurricanes (26-12). Ricky Santiago and C.J. Chatham both had two hits for the Owls (19-17).

 

No. 1 Virginia 11, William & Mary 2

In Charlottesville, Va., Matt Thaiss went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI as Virginia whacked William & Mary. The Cavaliers (31-6) scored in seven of their eight at-bats and expanded a 2-0 lead with five in the third. Joe McCarthy also drove in two, while Branden Cogswell went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs for Virginia. Artie Lewicki (3-0) allowed one hit in five scoreless innings with two walks and eight strikeouts. Michael Katz had two doubles and two RBI for the Tribe (22-14).

 

The Citadel 10, No. 8 South Carolina 8

In Charleston, S.C., Mason Davis went 3 for 4 with a homer, three runs and two RBI as The Citadel outscored South Carolina. The Bulldogs (15-23) erased a 2-1 deficit with four in the third and took the lead for good. Tyler Griffin had two hits, including a double, and drove in three, while Drew DeKerlegand went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBI for The Citadel. Starter Austin Livingston (2-4, 5 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 8 K) picked up the win, while Skylar Hunter pitched a hitless ninth with one walk and one strikeout to record his seventh save. Kyle Martin had two hits and two RBI for the Gamecocks (28-9).

 

No. 12 Alabama 5, UAB 2

In Birmingham, Ala., Wade Wass had two hits and three RBI to lead Alabama past UAB. The Crimson Tide (26-11) had 13 hits, all singles. Alabama trailed 1-0 before scoring three in the sixth, and added two more in the eighth. Georgia Salem had three hits and two runs, while Ben Moore went 2 for 3 with two runs for the victors. Geoffrey Bramblett (3-0, 5 IP, 4 H, R, 7 K) registered the win, with Thomas Burrows (1.2 IP, 2 BB, 2 K) notching his sixth save. Ivan De Jesus went 1 for 4 with one RBI for the Blazers (24-13).
