Tessar Helps Oregon Get Past San Diego

Washington tops UNC, UCSB outscores BYU, Virginia Tech nips Liberty

 

In Eugene, Ore., Brando Tessar tossed seven scoreless innings as No. 13 Oregon edged San Diego 4-3 on Monday. Tessar (3-0) scattered seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. The Ducks (28-10) led 4-0 before a two-run single by Kyle Holder (2 for 4, 2B) capped a three-run eighth for the Toreros (25-11). Garrett Cleavinger allowed one hit and fanned one in a scoreless ninth for his first save. Tyler Baumgartner went 2 for 3 with a double, one run and one RBI, while Aaron Payne scored twice for Oregon.

 

No. 10 Washington 14, Northern Colorado 3

In Seattle, Ryan Wiggins went 2 for 3 with a run and four RBI as Washington knocked off Northern Colorado. The Huskies (25-7-1) blew open a close game with four in the seventh and six in the eighth. Brian Wolfe was 2 for 2 off the bench with a double and three RBI, while Trevor Mitui homered and drove in a pair for Washington. Dae Yang Kim (1-0, 2 IP, H, BB, 2 K) earned the win in relief. Alex Drew went deep for the Bears (5-30).

 

No. 19 UC Santa Barbara 9, BYU 5

In Santa Barbara, Calif., Andrew Calica went 3 for 3 with two walks and two runs as UC Santa Barbara beat BYU. Campbell had a three-run double and scored in a four-run second for the Gauchos (23-8). Joey Epperson had three hits, including two doubles, one run and one RBI for UCSB. Andrew Vasquez (1-0, 6 IP, 4 H, R, 5 BB, 8 K) earned the victory. Eric Urry had a three-run triple and scored in the ninth for the Cougars (14-24).

 

Virginia Tech 4, Liberty 3

In Lynchburg, Va., Mark Zagunis went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI as Virginia Tech edged Liberty. Saige Jenco hit an inside-the-park home run to lead off the game and Zagunis added a sacrifice fly later in the frame as the Hokies (18-17-1) took a 2-0 lead. Zagunis had an RBI double and scored in the third as Tech took a 4-0 lead. Andrew Yacyk had a two-run homer in the fifth as the Flames (29-9) cut the deficit in half. Ryan Seiz went deep to lead off the sixth for Liberty. Luke Scherzer tossed three hitless innings with one walk and two strikeouts to record his fifth save. Kit Scheetz (3-1, 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 5 K) picked up the win.
