McCauley named MAAC Preseason Player of the Year

Niagara senior first baseman Ryan McCauley (left) was named Preseason Player of the Year in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, in voting by the league’s head coaches as released by the conference office.

A native of Urbandale, N.Y., McCauley led the MAAC with 12 home runs, 20 doubles and 51 RBI. He was second in the league with a .362 batting average.

Niagara, Rider, Siena and preseason favorite Manhattan each had two players on the Preseason All-MAAC Team.

The 2013 campaign begins on Friday, Feb. 15, with conference play kicking off the weekend of March 23-24. The MAAC Championship will be held at Waterfront Park in Trenton, N.J. The four-team double elimination tournament will be held from May 23-26.
