Stubbs lifts North Carolina past Florida Atlantic

Super Regionals await for South Carolina, Rice, Vandy, MSU

 

Chapel Hill Regional

#1 North Carolina 12, #2 Florida Atlantic 11 (13)

 

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Cody Stubbs delivered an RBI single with one away in the bottom of the 13th as North Carolina outlasted Florida Atlantic at Boshamer Stadium. The Owls trailed 6-2 after eight before a grand slam by Tyler Rocklein capped a six-run ninth as the visitors took a two-run lead. Mike Zolk (3 for 4, 4 RBI) ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the frame to knot the score at 8. Both teams plated three in the 12th before the Tar Heels won it in the 13th on the hit by Stubbs (4 for 7, 3 R, 2 RBI).

 

Columbia Regional

#1 South Carolina 6, #3 Liberty 4 (LU eliminated)

 

In Columbia, S.C., LB Dantzler went 2 for 4 with two RBI as South Carolina downed Liberty to capture the Columbia Regional. The Gamecocks (42-18) advance to the Super Regionals for the fourth straight year and 11th trip in the past 14 years. South Carolina has won 27 consecutive postseasons games at home, including 16-0 at Carolina Stadium. Tanner English had two hits, including a double, one run and one RBI for the Gamecocks. Justin Sizemore had three hits and two runs for the Flames (36-29).

 

Eugene Regional

#2 Rice 11, #1 Oregon 4 (UO eliminated) CBI Live - Isaac Rosenthal

 

Nashville Regional

#1 Vanderbilt 7, #2 Georgia Tech 1 (GT eliminated)

 

In Nashville, Tenn., Philip Pfeifer and Brian Miller combined on a four-hitter as Vanderbilt defeated Georgia Tech to take the Nashville Regional. The Commodores (54-10) will host Louisville in Super Regional play this weekend. Pfeifer allowed four hits and two walks in five scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Miller worked four hitless innings with one unearned run, one walk and five punchouts to register the save. Spender Navin had two hits and two runs for Vanderbilt. A.J. Murray went 1 for 3 with a run for the Yellow Jackets (37-27).

 

Starkville Regional

#1 Mississippi State 6, #4 Central Arkansas 1 (UCA eliminated)

 

In Starkville, Miss., Hunter Renfroe went 3 for 4 with two RBI, and leadoff man Adam Frazier added two hits, two runs and two RBI as Mississippi State captured the Starkville Regional by beating Central Arkansas. Chad Giordo went 6.2 innings with five hits, one earned run and 12 strikeouts for the Bulldogs, who will travel to meet Virginia in the Super Regionals. MSU scored twice in the first on a ground out and an infield error. Frazier added a RBI grounder in the second for a 3-0 lead, and Frazier and Renfroe each contributed RBI singles in the fifth. Garrett Brown went 2 for 4 with a run for the Bears.
