Oregon State builds 10-0 lead, beats Louisville

 

In Omaha, Neb., Oregon State scored three in the third and put the game away with seven in the fourth with two away in eliminating Louisville 11-4 Monday at the College World Series.

 

Seven of the first 10 runs scored by the Beavers (51-12) were unearned. Tyler Smith had a run-scoring double and Danny Hayes added an RBI fielder’s choice in the third, with the third run scoring on an error to make it 3-0.

 

Dylan Davis had a two-run infield single to start the scoring in the fourth and Max Gordon (2 for 4, 2 R) capped the seven-run outburst with a two-run base hit to push the lead to 10-0.

 

Andy Peterson had three hits and three RBI for OSU. Ben Wetzler (10-1, 6.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K) picked up the victory.

 

Cole Sturgeon had three hits, while Adam Engel had a two-run double and scored in the seventh for the Cardinals (51-14). Jeff Thompson (11-2, 3.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) suffered the loss.
