Navy sweeps Patriot League doubleheader at Lafayette

Washington State edges Seattle, Saint Mary's nips UC Santa Barbara

 

In Easton, Pa., Navy swept a doubleheader over Lafayette, 10-2 in Game 1 and 4-1 in Game 2, to complete a four-game Patriot League series sweep. In the opener, the Midshipmen (7-9, 20-23) scored in each of the first five innings, including three in the first and three in the fifth. Josh Moore went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI, while Alex Azor (1 for 5, 2 R) (left) and Kash Manzelli (3 for 4, R) both drove in two for Navy. Ben Nelson (2-3) went the distance for the Middies, allowing five hits and two runs in seven innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Brad Hopek went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, one run and one RBI for the Leopards (4-12, 10-31-1). In the nightcap, Manzelli (3 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI) and Greg Dupell (2 for 3, 2 R) both homered for Navy. Anthony Parenti (3-2, 5 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K) picked up the win, while Joel Rinehart (2 IP, 2 BB, 1 K) picked up his third save. Andrew Santomauro and Tim Lazor both had two hits for Lafayette.

 

Washington State 8, Seattle 6

In Everett, Wash., Washington State scored five over the final three innings to rally past Seattle. The Redhawks (19-17) led 4-3 after six before the Cougars (21-16) scored two in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth. Adam Nelubowich went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBI, while Taylor Ard drove in a pair for WSU. P.J. Jones went 3 for 3 with a double and one run for the Cougars. Kellen Camus (1-1, 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K) got the win, while Spencer Jackson recorded the final three outs for his first save. Michael Tevlin had a pinch-hit two run homer in the ninth for Seattle. Nate Roberts went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs, while Ryan Somers had two hits, including a double, and two RBI for the Redhawks.

 

Saint Mary’s 2, UC Santa Barbara 1

In Moraga, Calif., Patrick Wisdom homered in a two-run fifth as Saint Mary’s edged UC Santa Barbara to give head coach Jedd Soto his 200th career win with the Gaels. Wisdom’s blast snapped a scoreless tie and Ricky Boas added a RBI triple as Saint Mary’s (19-19) took a 2-0 lead. Ryan Palermo had a sacrifice fly in the eighth for the Gauchos (21-18). Jordan Mills (4-3, 5 IP, 3 H, 1 UE, 4 BB, 4 K) earned the win in relief, while Tanner Kichler (1.2 IP, 1 K) registered his first save.
