Columbia Regional

#1 South Carolina 5, #2 Clemson 4 (12)

L.B. Dantzler had a game-winning single in the bottom of the 12th as South Carolina outlasted Clemson in front of a sellout crowd of 8,242 at Carolina Stadium. The Tigers (34-27) will play an elimination game against Coastal Carolina on Sunday at noon. That winner will have to beat the Gamecocks (42-17) at 4 p.m. on Sunday and again on Monday to win the regional. Joey Pankake had a leadoff single in the 12th and moved to third on a base hit by Evan Marzilli. After a popout, Dantzler delivered the hit that brought home Pankake for the victory. South Carolina got a two-run homer from Adam Matthews in the fourth before Clemson put up three in the seventh and one in the eighth for a 4-2 lead. The Gamecocks rallied for one in the eighth and another in the ninth to force extra frames. Brad Felder went 3 for 5 with a homer and two runs for the Tigers. 

 

In the first game, Tyler Herb (right) tossed a two-hitter as Coastal Carolina eliminated Manhattan on Saturday at Carolina Stadium. Herb (9-2) allowed one unearned run with three walks and five strikeouts. The Jaspers (33-27) tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth. The Chanticleers (42-18) reclaimed the lead with two in the sixth and put the game away with six in the seventh. Jacob May went 3 for 4 with a homer, three runs and three RBI, while Rich Witten and Alex Buccilli both drove in a pair for Coastal. Chapel Hill Regional

#3 St. John’s 5, #1 North Carolina 4

#2 East Carolina 10, #4 Cornell 6 (Cornell eliminated)

 

Danny Bethea belted a game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as St. John’s stunned North Carolina. The Tar Heels (45-15) will face East Carolina 1 p.m. on Sunday in an elimination game. The winner must beat the Red Storm (39-21) at 6 p.m. and again on Monday. Jeremy Baltz (2 for 3, 2 R, RBI) had a leadoff double in the ninth and moved to third on a base hit by Sean O’Hare (3 for 4). Michael Morin got a strikeout before Bethea’s blast ended the contest. Bethea finished with four RBI. Shell McCain went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBI for UNC.

 

Earlier in the day, East Carolina scored five in the top of the fifth to erase a 4-2 deficit and eliminate Cornell. The Pirates (36-23-1) added three in the seventh after the Big Red (31-17-1) tallied two in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one. Jay Cannon had two hits, including a double, and drove in two, while Drew Reynolds homered and scored twice for ECU. Tyler Joyner (6-2, 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K) earned the win in relief. Ben Swinford had two hits and two RBI for Cornell.

 

Raleigh Regional

#2 Vanderbilt 8, #1 NC State 8

#3 UNC Wilmington 13, #4 Sacred Heart 4 (SHU eliminated)

 

Tony Kemp had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth as Vanderbilt rallied from an 8-3 deficit to shock NC State. The Wolfpack (40-18) meets UNCW at 1 p.m. Sunday in an elimination contest. The winner must defeat the Commodores (35-26) at 6 p.m. and again on Monday to win the regional. Vanderbilt scored five in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at 8. Conrad Gregor had two doubles and two RBI, while Mike Yastrzemski and Connor Castellano both scored twice for the Commodores. Ryan Mathews (3 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBI) homered, while Brett Austin had two hits and two RBI for NC State.

 

In the earlier game, Drew Farber went 4 for 5 with a homer and five RBI as UNC Wilmington eliminated Sacred Heart. The Seahawks (39-22) hit five home runs, as Tyler Molinaro (2 for 5, 2 RBI), Andrew Cain (3 for 4, 2 R), Thomas Pope (2 for 5, 2 R) and Corey Dick (1 for 3, 2 RBI) all went deep. UNCW had five multi-run innings, including a four-run fourth to take the lead for good. Travis Bradley (1-1, 6.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 1 K) picked up the win. Rocco Gondek (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) homered and John Murphy drove in two for the Pioneers (25-32).

 

Gary Regional

#3 Kent State 7, #1 Purdue 3

#2 Kentucky 8, #4 Valparaiso 1 (Valpo eliminated)

 

After using five pitchers in Friday’s 21-inning victory, Ryan Bores went the distance on Saturday for Kent State in its win over Purdue. The Boilermakers (45-13) will face Kentucky at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday in an elimination game. The winner must beat the Golden Flashes (43-18) at 7 p.m. and again on Monday to advance to a Super Regional. Bores (9-2) scattered nine hits and one walk while allowing three runs and striking out two. KSU scored five with two away in the second, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Jimmy Rider (3 for 5, 2 R). The Golden Flashes led 6-2 after two and kept control the rest of the way. George Roberts doubled and also drove in three for Kent State. Kevin Plawecki went 2 for 4 with a triple, one run and one RBI for Purdue.

 

In the first game, Austin Cousino had three hits and three RBI, including a two-run double in a five-run sixth, as Kentucky defeated Valparaiso in an elimination game at US Steel Yard. The game was tied at 1 before the explosion in the sixth by the Wildcats (44-17). Matt Reida went 2 for 3 with two RBI for UK. Jerad Grundy (6-3, 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 6 K) earned the win, while Chandler Shepherd (3 IP, 2 H, 2 K) recorded his first save. Andrew Bain had three hits for the Crusaders (35-25).

 

Baton Rouge Regional

#1 LSU 7, #2 Oregon State 1

#4 ULM 6, #3 Belmont 3 (Belmont eliminated)

 

Kevin Gausman allowed one run in eight innings as LSU downed Oregon State. The Beavers (39-19) will play against ULM at 1:30 p.m. CT Sunday in an elimination contest. The winner will have to top the Tigers (45-16) on Sunday and again on Monday to win the regional. Gausman (11-1) allowed seven hits and three walks while fanning three. Earlier, Jeremy Sy went 3 for 4 with a run and two RBI as ULM eliminated Belmont. Sy, who was a home run short of the cycle, had a two-run single to cap a three-run eighth as the Warhawks (32-29) took the lead for good. Kendall Thamm (7-3, 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K) earned the win in relief. Judah Akers had two hits and a run for the Bruins (39-24).

 

Charlottesville Regional

#1 Virginia 9, #4 Army 1

Branden Kline pitched into the sixth as Virginia won its suspended game against Army. Kline (6-3) allowed six hits and one run in 6.2 innings with one walk and five strikeouts. The Cavaliers (39-17-1) scored three in the second, sixth and eighth. Stephen Bruno had three hits and three RBI to lead the UVa offense. Zach Price had two hits, including a double, and one run for the Black Knights (41-14).

 

College Station Regional

#3 Ole Miss 6, #1 Texas A&M 3

#2 TCU 28, #4 Dayton 12 (Dayton eliminataed)

 

Mike Mayers struck out a career-best nine as Ole Miss defeated Texas A&M. The Aggies (43-17) meet TCU at 12:35 p.m. CT Sunday in an elimination contest. The winner must defeat the Rebels (37-24) at 6:35 p.m. and again on Monday to advance to a Super Regional. Mayers (6-3) allowed four hits and two earned runs in 6.1 innings with three walks. Brett Huber (1 H, 3 BB, 3 K) pitched two scoreless innings before R.J. Hively got the final two outs for his fourth save. Tanner Mathis went 3 for 3 with two doubles, three runs and one RBI, while Matt Snyder was 2 for 5 with a double and three RBI for Ole Miss. Mikey Reynolds had two hits and two runs for Texas A&M.

 

In the first game, Brance Rivera went 1 for 2 with four runs and six RBI as TCU thumped Dayton in an elimination game at Blue Bell Park. Rivera was plunked three times, had a two-run suicide squeeze in the second and a grand slam in the ninth. The Horned Frogs (37-20) trailed 9-6 after five before putting up seven in the sixth, six in the seventh and nine in the ninth. Jerrick Suiter went 5 for 6 with three runs and three RBI for TCU. Jared Broughton went 2 for 3 with a homer, four runs and four RBI for the Flyers (31-30).

 

Gainesville Regional

#1 Florida 6, #2 Georgia Tech 2

#3 College of Charleston 8, #4 Bethune-Cookman 2 (B-CU eliminated)

 

Hudson Randall and Steven Rodriguez combined to hold Georgia Tech to a pair of runs as Florida stayed undefeated in the Gainesville Regional in front of 4,584 fans at McKethan Stadium. The Yellow Jackets (37-25) will face College of Charleston in an elimination game at noon on Sunday. The winner must beat the Gators (44-18) at 6 p.m. and again on Monday to win the regional. Randall (8-2) allowed eight hits and one run in 5.2 innings with one walk and five strikeouts to earn the victory. Rodriguez (3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 K) earned his fourth save. Florida snapped a 1-1 tie with three in the fourth, sparked by home run No. 17 by Mike Zunino. Preston Tucker added a two-run shot in the ninth for the Gators. Daniel Palka had three hits and two runs for Georgia Tech, which stranded 10.

 

In the earlier game, Matt Pegler pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts as College of Charleston eliminated Bethune-Cookman. Pegler (10-2) allowed two earned runs and did not walk a batter. The Cougars (38-21) expanded a 3-0 lead with five in the fifth. Daniel Aldrich went 3 for 3 with a double, a homer, two runs and two RBI, while Marty Gantt had two hits, including a homer, and two runs for Charleston. Josh Johnson had a two-run homer in the sixth for the Wildcats (34-27).

 

Houston Regional

#2 Arkansas 1, #1 Rice 0

#3 Sam Houston State 4, #4 Prairie View A&M 2 (PVAM eliminated)

 

Ryne Stanek tossed seven scoreless innings as Arkansas edged Rice to remain undefeated in the Houston Regional. The Owls (41-18) will face Sam Houston State in an elimination game at 1 p.m. The winner must defeat the Razorbacks (41-19) at 6 p.m. and again on Monday to advance to a Super Regional. Stanek (7-4) allowed five hits and two walks while striking out four. Astin Barrett worked the final two innings to record his 10th save. Arkansas got its run in the top of the second as Dominic Ficociello drew a leadoff walk and scored on an error. Austin Kubitza (6-5, 7.1 IP, 2 H, 1 UE, 3 BB, 8 K) suffered the loss despite a strong outing.

 

In the first game, Colt Atwood drove in three as Sam Houston State edged Prairie View A&M in an elimination game at Reckling Park. Atwood had a two-run single in the fifth to erase a 1-0 deficit and drove in a third on a fielder’s choice in the ninth. Jessie Plumlee was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs for the Bearkats (39-21). Justin Jackson (8-4, 8 IP, 8 H, 2 UE, 3 BB, 2 K) earned the victory, while Michael Burchett (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) picked up his ninth save. Brett Valley had three hits for the Panthers (28-25).

 

Stanford Regional

#1 Stanford 5, #2 Pepperdine 4

#4 Fresno State 8, #3 Michigan State 2 (MSU eliminated)

 

Kenny Diekroeger had a run-scoring double with two away in the top of the eighth to snap a 4-4 tie and propel Stanford past Pepperdine. The Waves (34-22) will face Fresno State on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT in an elimination contest. The winner will have to defeat the Cardinal (40-16) on Sunday and again on Monday to take the regional title. Bryan Langlois (3 for 4, 2B) drove in two in a four-run third as Pepperdine built a 4-0 lead. Brian Ragira (2 for 3, 2 R) homered in the fourth for Stanford. The Cardinal loaded the bases in the seventh and all scored on a wild pitch and a pair of subsequent errors to tie it at 4. A.J. Vanegas (4-0, 3.2 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 8 K) earned the win.

 

Trent Garrison had three hits and three RBI as Fresno State eliminated Michigan State. Both teams scored a pair in the first. The Bulldogs (31-27) scored in each of the final four innings, including three in the top of the ninth. Aaron Judge had two hits, including a double, and two RBI for FSU. Blaise Salter had a two-run double in the first for the Spartans (37-23). Gene Escat (4-0, 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 K) earned the win in relief, while Taylor Garrison (2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) registered his 11th save.

 

Tucson Regional

#1 Arizona 16, #3 Louisville 4

#4 Missouri 6, #2 New Mexico State 2 (NMSU eliminated)

 

Arizona used a five-run third to take the lead and a seven-run seventh to put the game away in its win over Louisville in front of 4,007 fans at Hi Corbett Field. The Cardinals (40-21) will face Missouri at 1 p.m. MST on Sunday in an elimination game. The winner must beat the Wildcats (40-17) at 5 p.m. MST and again on Monday to win the regional. Alex Mejia went 5 for 5 with two doubles, four runs and three RBI, while Seth Mejias-Brean was 4 for 6 with a double, one run and two RBI for Arizona. Brandon Dixon had a three-run homer in the seventh for the Wildcats. Konner Wade (8-3, 8 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned the win. Stewart Ijames had two hits and one RBI, while Nick Ratajczak went 2 for 5 with a run for Louisville.

 

In the first game, Missouri scored five in the bottom of the eighth to eliminate New Mexico State. Michael McGraw (2 for 4, 2 R) and Scott Sommerfeld (3 for 4, R, 3 RBI) both had RBI triples in the eighth for the Tigers (33-27). Jeff Emens (4-1, 3 IP, 3 H, 3 K) earned the win in relief of Rob Zastryzny (6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K). Kurt Snowley went 3 for 4, while Zach Voight (2 for 4) had a two-run triple in the first for the Aggies (35-24).

 

Waco Regional

#2 Dallas Baptist 11, #4 Oral Roberts 8

#1 Baylor 11, #3 UT Arlington 6 (UTA eliminated)

 

Duncan McAlpine went 3 for 5 with a homer and five RBI as Dallas Baptist outscored Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles (38-24) will meet Baylor at 2 p.m. CT Sunday in an elimination game. The winner must defeat the Patriots (41-17) on Sunday and again on Monday to advance to a Super Regional. Landon Anderson had three hits and three runs, while Boomer Collins (2 for 5, 2 RBI) and Ryan Behmanesh (2 for 4, 2 R) both homered for DBU. The Patriots scored in four of the first five innings, including three in the second and four in the third, in building a 10-3 lead. Aaron Gilbreath (4-3, 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the win in relief. Kevin Cho had two hits and two RBI for ORU.

 

Earlier in the day, Josh Ludy went 4 for 4 with a homer, three runs and four RBI as Baylor bounced UT Arlington from the tournament. Ludy was a triple short of the cycle. The Bears (45-15) trailed 5-4 after five before scoring in each of the final four innings. Dan Evatt and Adam Toth both had two hits and two RBI for Baylor. Max Garner (3-2, 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K) got the win in relief. Preston Beck (2 for 3, 2 BB) and Matt Shortall both had home runs for the Mavericks (36-25).
