Arizona now holds a 7-5 advantage in 12 meetings with Florida State. The Wildcats are 5-1 in six CWS meetings with the Seminoles.

There have been 88 extra-inning games in CWS history. Arizona is 4-3 in extra-inning contests in Omaha, while FSU is 1-7.

The winners of the past five extra-inning games at the College World Series have gone on to win the national championship. South Carolina won a pair of extra-inning contests in both 2011 and 2010, while LSU won one in 2009.

Arizona improved to 30-1 when holding its opponents to four runs or less.

Kurt Heyer has pitched at least 7.2 innings in his past 12 starts. He is second in the nation with 8.09 innings per start, trailing Ryan Van Spronsen of Wagner (8.33).

Robert Refsnyder had a RBI single in the third to extend his streak of reaching base to 35 straight games.

Johnny Field’s RBI double in the 12th stretched his hit streak to 12.

Florida State lost its fourth straight CWS opener. The last opening-game win in the CWS for the Seminoles came in 1999, a 7-3 victory over Texas A&M.
