Stanford, Fullerton host key series in Weekend 2

No one can accuse Stanford of loading up on cupcakes in its non-conference schedule. After dominating nationally-ranked Vanderbilt in the opening weekend, the No. 3 Cardinal welcome ninth-ranked Texas to Sunken Diamond. The Longhorns are looking to snap an early two-game losing streak, having lost to Duke in the series finale last Sunday before falling to UT Arlington on Tuesday.

No. 20 Cal State Fullerton hopes to build on its victory at top-ranked Florida Sunday when it hosts No. 14 TCU. The Horned Frogs split a rain-shortened two-game set at home with Ole Miss before falling at Baylor on Tuesday.

Speaking of Baylor, the Bears also head west to play a three-game set at UCLA. Other interesting match-ups out west include Auburn at No. 15 Arizona, Cal at Long Beach State and BYU at Saint Mary’s in the first conference series of the season, this in the West Coast Conference.

The state of Florida, as it often does, will have some intriguing pairings this weekend. FIU, one of the favorites in the Sun Belt, plays a three-game set at No. 11 Florida State. After an impressive 3-0 opening weekend, Boston College visits UCF. And Bethune-Cookman, the favorite to win the MEAC, tries to bounce back from a close loss at No. 1 Florida on Tuesday with a series at USF. The Bulls went 3-0 in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge last weekend before falling to UNF on Wednesday.

Other match-ups in the southeast have Elon of the Southern Conference visiting No. 2 South Carolina, Horizon League favorite Wright State at No. 7 North Carolina (with all three games on ESPN3), America East stalwart Maine at No. 16 Clemson, Oregon at No. 19 Vanderbilt and NEC favorite Monmouth at Virginia.

In Gulf region states, super regional participant Dallas Baptist travels to No. 6 Rice, Texas State of the Southland visits Houston, UNC Wilmington of the CAA plays at Ole Miss and Sun Belt co-favorite Troy goes to Southern Miss.

The Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, N.C., will have some extremely interesting match-ups this weekend with Maryland, Purdue, Western Carolina and host East Carolina all facing each other.

Enjoy the weekend!
