Abilene Christian returns to Southland Conference

Abilene Christian University, a charter member of the Southland Conference, will return to the league for the 2013-14 academic year.

ACU was one of five schools that formed the Southland Conference in the spring of 1963. Abilene Christian departed 10 years later to move to the Lone Star Conference.

The Wildcats will compete in 16 of the 17 conference championships, including baseball. ACU plays its home games in the 4,000-seat Crutcher Scott Field.

ACU joins New Orleans and Incarnate Word as new Southland members next year. Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word will both transition from Division II to Division I.

The school was founded in 1906 as Childers Classical Institute and became Abilene Christian College in 1912. Enrollment is approximately 4,600.
