Ottoson and Lambson combine on shutout for Arizona St.

Ribera and Wise both drive in three for Fresno State against Hawaii

 

In Tempe, Ariz., Kyle Ottoson and Mitchell Lambson combined on a three-hit shutout as No. 7 Arizona State blanked BYU 3-0 Monday in the first of a two-game set in front of 2,820 fans at Packard Stadium. Ottoson (3-0) allowed three hits and two walks in seven innings with seven strikeouts. Lambson pitched two perfect innings for his seventh save. The Sun Devils (32-10) scored in the sixth as Michael Benjamin reached on an error and came home on a wild pitch. Joey DeMichele had the first hit for ASU with a double in the seventh. Benjamin had a two-run homer in the eighth to extend the lead to 3-0. It was his first career hit. Ryan Bernal went 2 for 3 with a walk for the Cougars (20-21).

 

No. 16 Fresno State 12, Hawaii 2

In Fresno, Calif., Jordan Ribera and Kenny Wise both had two hits and three RBI as Fresno State run-ruled Hawaii in seven innings to split their four-game WAC series. Ribera (2 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB) walked and scored on a Wise (2 for 4, 2 R) groundout in the second to start the scoring for the Bulldogs (10-5, 30-9). Garrett Weber (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Wise hit consecutive homers in the fourth and Ribera added a two-run single later in the frame as the six-run rally extended the lead to 7-0. T Harlan (4-2, 6.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 6 K) earned the victory for Fresno State. Jeffrey Van Doornum went 2 for 3 with a two-run double in the sixth for the first-place Rainbows (9-3, 24-19). Sean Montplaisir also went 2 for 3 for Hawaii.
