UConn, Dallas Baptist, Cal advance to Super Regionals

 

Austin Regional

#1 Texas 5 vs. #3 Kent State 0 (KSU eliminated)

Texas wins Austin Regional

 

In Austin, Texas, six Texas hurlers combined on a five-hit shutout in defeating Kent State at UFCU Disch-Falk Field to claim the Austin Regional title. Sam Stafford (3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K) was the starter for the Longhorns (47-16), followed by winner Kendal Carrillo (6-1, 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K), Hoby Milner (1.1 IP, 1 K), Cole Green (1 IP, 1 K), Taylor Jungmann (1 IP, 1 K) and Corey Knebel (1 IP, 1 H). Erich Weiss went 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI, while Mark Payton had two hits and drove in one for UT. Travis Shaw had a double for the Golden Flashes (45-17).

 

Clemson Regional

#2 Connecticut 14, #1 Clemson 1 (Clemson eliminated)

Connecticut wins Clemson Regional

 

In Clemson, S.C., Ryan Fuller went 3 for 5 with a homer and five RBI as Connecticut clobbered Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Huskies (45-18-1) will play at South Carolina this weekend in the Columbia Super Regional. Fuller had a run-scoring single in a three-run first, a RBI double in a five-run fifth and a three-run homer in a six-run eighth. John Andreoli (2 for 4, 2 R) and Nick Ahmed (1 for 5) both drove in two for UConn. Richie Shaffer homered in the second for the Tigers (43-20). Greg Nappo (10-2, 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K) picked up the win, while Dan Feehan (3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K) notched his first save.

Columbia Regional

#1 South Carolina 8, #2 Stetson 2 (SU eliminated)

South Carolina wins Columbia Regional

 

In Columbia, S.C., Scott Wingo went 3 for 4 with two runs as South Carolina won the completion of its suspended game with Stetson to win the Columbia Regional. The Gamecocks (48-14) will host the winner of the Clemson Regional, either Clemson or Connecticut, this weekend in the Columbia Super Regional. Evan Marzilli homered and drove in two, while Jake Williams also knocked in a pair for USC. John Taylor (5-1, 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB) earned the win in relief, while Matt Price (2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 K) finished the game for his 17th save. Robert Crews went 1 for 4 with one RBI for the Hatters (43-20).

 

Fort Worth Regional

#3 Dallas Baptist 11 vs. #4 Oral Roberts 9 (ORU eliminated)

Dallas Baptist wins Fort Worth Regional

 

In Fort Worth, Texas, Dallas Baptist scored eight in the top of the first and held on to defeat Oral Roberts at Lupton Stadium to win the Fort Worth Regional. The Patriots (42-18) will face the winner of the Houston Regional (Baylor or California) this weekend in the Super Regional. Landon Anderson went 3 for 6 with two runs and three RBI, while Ryan Behmanesh had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI for DBU. Stuart Pudenz (4-1, 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 7 K) earned the win in relief, while Chris Haney struck out three of the final five batters, including two in the eighth with a pair in scoring position, to earn his 14th save. Brandon King had a grand slam in the first and Chris Elder went deep and knocked in three for the Golden Eagles (39-22).

 

Houston Regional

#3 California 9 vs. #2 Baylor 8 (BU eliminated)

California wins Houston Regional

 

In Houston, Devon Rodriguez had a two-run single to cap a four-run bottom of the ninth as California rallied past Baylor to win the Houston Regional at Reckling Park. The Golden Bears (35-21) will face Dallas Baptist this weekend in the Super Regionals. Rodriguez finished with three hits, including a homer, and four RBI, while Marcus Semien went 4 for 5 with two RBI for Cal. Jake Miller (2 for 3, 2 R) and Joey Hainsfurther (1 for 4) both drove in two for the Bears (31-28).

 

Tallahassee Regional

#1 Florida State 11, #3 Alabama 1 (UA eliminated)

Florida State wins Tallahassee Regional

 

In Tallahassee, Fla., Mike McGee had three doubles and three RBI as Florida State won the completion of its suspended game with Alabama to capture the Tallahassee Regional. FSU will host the winner of the College Station Regional, either Texas A&M or Arizona, this weekend in the Tallahassee Super Regional. McGee (4-3, 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 K) was also the winning pitcher, while Scott Sitz (4 IP, 2 H, 3 K) recorded his first save. James Ramsey went 3 for 4 with two runs, Taiwan Esterling was 4 for 4 with a double, two runs and one RBI, Justin Gonzalez had two doubles and drove in two, and Jayce Boyd had a double, a homer, two runs and two RBI for the Seminoles (45-17). Taylor Dugas (2 for 4) homered for the Crimson Tide (35-28).
