Giuliani homers to lead Stanford past Santa Clara

Belmont sweeps Atlantic Sun doubleheader from UNF, Siena stops Bryant

 

In Stanford, Calif., Dave Giuliani belted a three-run homer as Stanford topped Santa Clara 8-3 Monday to snap a four-game losing streak. Tyler Gaffney (2 for 5) had a two-run single to cap a three-run second for the Cardinal (22-17). Guiliani’s three-run blast in the third made it 7-0. Kenny Diekroeger had one hit and three runs for Stanford. Blake Leyva had two hits and Evan Peters homered for the Broncos (18-24).

 

Belmont 4-15, UNF 1-9

In Nashville, Tenn., Nate Woods went 2 for 4 in the opener and drove in all four runs as Belmont swept an Atlantic Sun doubleheader from second-place UNF at Ken Dugan Field. Belmont’s home field of Shelby Park was unplayable due to the flooding in Nashville, but Lipscomb allowed the games to be played on its home field. Woods had a three-run homer and set a single-season record with 67 RBI. He tied the school record with 17 home runs. In the nightcap, Tim Egerton went 4 for 4 with six RBI for the Bruins (9-11, 22-24). Derek Hamblen went 4 for 6 with three runs and four RBI for Belmont. Preston Hale and T.J. Thompson both went deep for the Ospreys (10-7, 22-20).

 

Siena 14, Bryant 6

In Smithfield, R.I., Dan Paolini homered twice and knocked in seven as Siena outscored Bryant. Paolini had a two-run blast in the top of the first to start the scoring. The Saints (20-25) plated four in both the sixth and ninth to blow the game open. Anthony Giansanti also homered and drove in three, while Mike Allen had four hits and three runs for Siena. Nick Campbell went 4 for 5 with two RBI for the Bulldogs (23-20).
