Before this season, the last time both brackets needed “if necessary” games was in 1988, the first year of the two-bracket format. Arizona State beat Wichita State twice to win Bracket One, while Stanford stopped Cal State Fullerton twice to take Bracket Two. Stanford defeated Arizona State 9-4 in the national championship game.

The Clemson-South Carolina game took 2:22, the shortest CWS game since June 18, 2006, when North Carolina blanked Clemson 2-0 in 2:15.

South Carolina is 3-0 in elimination games this season, all in Omaha. The Gamecocks did not play an elimination game in the regionals or super regionals.

Jackie Bradley Jr. extended his hit streak to 20 games. He is batting .438 (7 for 16) with nine RBI in the CWS.

Clemson had its four-game win streak snapped. The Tigers had won 20 of its past 26 prior to the South Carolina game.

The Tigers were held to a season-low three hits. Clemson had four hits on two occasions.
