This was the 28th meeting in the College World Series of teams from California and from Texas, and California teams have posted a 19-9 record.

TCU raised its record to 54-13. Its win total ranks second to Coastal Carolina’s 55 victories.

The Horned Frogs are 3-0 in elimination games in the NCAA Tournament, with a win over Texas in the super regional and victories over Florida State and UCLA in the CWS.

TCU is the first team to record three wins in its first College World Series since Georgia Tech in 1994. The last team to win the national championship in its first CWS appearance was Minnesota in 1956.

Matt Purke of TCU raised his record to 16-0, a school record for wins in a season.

UCLA had its four-game win streak snapped. The Bruins have won eight of their past 10 contests.
