Walsh's two-run double leads Stanford past San Fransicso

Burgess belts a grand slam for Utah Valley; Goins goes 4 for 4 for DBU

 

In Stanford, Calif., Colin Walsh had a two-run double with two outs in the seventh to give Stanford a 5-4 lead on its way to the 12-4 win over San Francisco Monday at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The Cardinal (19-18) put the game away with seven in the eighth, keyed by a three-run double by Adam Gaylord. Max Fearnow (3-3) pitched three hitless, scoreless innings of relief with one walk and two strikeouts. Gaylord finished with two hits and four RBI. Walsh had three hits and two RBI. Ben Clowe had two hits and three runs for Stanford. Robert Abel had a three-run homer in the fifth for the Dons (22-23).

 

Utah Valley 7, BYU 2

In Orem, Utah, Billy Burgess belted a grand slam for the second straight game as Utah Valley beat BYU in front of a season-high 2,455 fans at Brent Brown Ballpark. The slam by Burgess capped a five-run first for the Wolverines (13-28). Jake Rickenbach added a dinger in the second for UVU. Justin Smith (6-3) allowed two runs and five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Sean McNaughton went deep in the seventh for the Cougars (24-17). McNaughton and Steve Parker both had two hits for BYU.

 

Dallas Baptist 12, Stephen F. Austin 8

In Nacogdoches, Texas, Ryan Goins went 4 for 4 with two runs as DBU outscored SFA. Ryan Enos had a two-run homer in a three-run seventh that gave the Patriots (30-11) a 9-8 lead. DBU added a run in the eighth and two in the ninth for insurance. Jason Krizan had three hits, two runs and three RBI for the Patriots. Brian Ferguson (4 for 5, 1 R, 2 RBI) and Ryan Priest (3 for 5, 3 RBI) led the offense for the Lumberjacks (19-24).

 

Louisiana Tech 10, Sacramento State 5

In Sacramento, Calif., Chris Kersten homered twice as Louisiana Tech earned a WAC series split at Sacramento State. Kersten had solo shots in the fourth and seventh as the Bulldogs (7-9, 22-18) built a 5-1 lead. Patrick Thomas added a three-run dinger later in the frame as Tech had a 10-1 lead. The Hornets (4-8, 23-19) scored two in the eighth and two in the ninth. Tim Wheeler had two hits and two RBI for Sacramento State.

 

Connecticut 6, Northeastern 4

In Brookline, Mass., George Springer singled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to snap a 4-4 tie and lead UConn past Northeastern. Doug Elliot added an RBI single for an insurance run for the visiting Huskies (23-20). Springer had two hits and three runs for UConn. James Donaldson had three hits and one RBI for the home Huskies (22-16).

 

Tennessee Tech 7, Alabama A&M 1

In Cookeville, Tenn., Chason Choate allowed one run in eight innings and Tate McMillan had five RBI as Tennessee Tech took care of Alabama A&M at Bush Stadium. Choate (1-0) allowed four hits and struck out five. McMillan had a three-run homer to cap a four-run first for the Golden Eagles (22-17). Marcus Spencer went deep in the fifth for the Bulldogs (14-25). Casanova Donaldson and A.J. Kirby-Jones both scored twice for Tech.
