Virginia got its first College World Series win in its first trip to Omaha. The Cavaliers evened their all-time series with the Titans. Fullerton ended UVa’s season a year ago with a 4-1 victory in the Fullerton Regional.

The Cavs got their 49th win, a school record, and the third-highest total in the nation (LSU 52, Arizona State 50).

Virginia was 7 for 14 (.500) with runners in scoring position after going 2 for 16 (.125) against LSU.

Jarrett Parker of Virginia did not put a ball in play in his first nine CWS plate appearances (four walks, five strikeouts) before a flyout in his 10th trip to the dish.

Cal State Fullerton entered the College World Series with the fourth-best ERA in the nation at 3.36, but allowed 17 earned runs in its two games in Omaha after surrendering 11 in five games in the NCAA Regional and Super Regional.

The Titans had been 12-1 when hitting two or more home runs and 35-2 when out-hitting their opponent before Monday’s loss.

Fullerton is 0-9 when allowing seven or more runs in a game.

The Titans have lost five straight games in Omaha.
