Notes: Vanderbilt did not reach the heights of a season ago after losing several top players, but will be appearing in their fifth consecutive NCAA tournament. The Commodores will be looking to advance past the regional round for the first time since 2004. Pedro Alvarez earned first-team All-SEC honors and many talent evaluators are predicting that he will be a first round selection in the major league draft. Vanderbilt was in contention for the conference title as late as the penultimate weekend of the season, but the Commodores dropped their last five games to sink to the sixth seed.

Mike Errigo tossed a five-hitter in the 6-0 win in the championship game. Stony Brook won 16-3 at James Madison on March 20. Minnesota Twins closer Joe Nathan pitched at Stony Brook. Head coach Matt Senk and assistant coach Joe Pennucci each have degrees in psychology.
