Gavin Brooks and Tim Murphy threw back-to-back complete games to help the Bruins beat stingy Illinois-Chicago then host Long Beach State in the final two games of the Regional. Jermaine Curtis was named the MVP of the Long Beach Regional. Freshman Jeff Rapoport’s brother, Jim, played for Stanford and now plays in the St. Louis Cardinals' organization. Will Penniall’s father played baseball at UCLA in 1975-76 and went on to play in the St. Louis Cardinals' organization.  Gavin Brooks was ranked No. 1 in the 2006 So Cal Top 50 Player Rankings with Gabe Cohen being ranked No. 8 in the same year.  UCLA was undefeated in the Long Beach Regional. Coach John Savage started UC Irvine's program in 2002 and took the Anteaters to the NCAA tourney in 2004 - he was named one of three finalists for national coach of the year by CollegeBaseballInsider.com in 2006.
