Kunda drives in two for OSU

In Omaha, Neb., Jonah Nickerson allowed four hits in seven innings as Oregon State earned its first College World Series victory in school history with a 5-3 win over Georgia in an elimination game Monday afternoon at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Nickerson (12-4) did not walk a batter and allowed two runs with three strikeouts for the Beavers (45-15). Kevin Gunderson survived the final two innings to notch his 18th save.

OSU got a sacrifice fly by Chris Kunda in the top of the second and an RBI single by Tyler Graham in the third to take an early 2-0 lead. Jonathan Wyatt went deep for the Bulldogs (47-23) in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1.

The Beavers got a pair in the fourth as Kunda smacked an RBI double and scored on a base hit by Darwin Barney to give OSU a 4-1 advantage.

Georgia got one back in the bottom of the fifth on a run-scoring single by Matthew Dunn. Mike Lissman’s RBI single in the top of the eighth pushed the Beavers ahead 5-2.

Bobby Felmy had an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to make it 5-3. Georgia rallied in the bottom of the ninth as Matt Olson and Ryan Peisel had consecutive singles with one out, but the third double play of the day ended the game and the season for the Bulldogs.

Oregon State will face Miami in an elimination game on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT.
