Notes: The Yellow Jackets hosted a NCAA Regional for the fifth consecutive season and the eighth time since 1987. They are hosting a Super Regional for the third straight year and are shooting for their third trip to Omaha. Georgia Tech has a very potent line-up that will be tough for any pitching staff to handle. The Yellow Jackets rank high nationally in nearly every offensive category including scoring (3rd/9.2 pg), home runs (12th/1.27 pg), doubles (2.39 pg) and slugging percentage (11th/.498). Matt Wieters belted three homers and drove in six and reached base in 14 of 15 plate appearances in the Regionals. Mike Trapani wrote a journal for CollegeBaseballInsider.com in 2005. Luke Murton ripped three homers in an ACC tourney game against Clemson. Blake Wood is 20-5 the past two years, although he has been more hittable this season. Steven Blackwood is a Microbial Physiology major, and plans to pursue a career as a doctor when his baseball career ends. The Ramblin’ Wreck is 15-4 in its past 19 contests with two of those losses coming in the ACC tournament to eventual champion Clemson. The Yellow Jackets are 7-0 against College of Charleston, but the teams haven’t played since 1993, shortly after the Cougars’ baseball program was restored.
