National Player

A.J. Reed (Terre Haute, Ind.)

Kentucky sophomore first baseman/pitcher

 

Reed went 10 for 19 (.526) at the plate in five games with three home runs, one double, six runs and 15 RBI. He had 20 total bases for a slugging percentage of 1.053. Reed walked once and was plunked three times for an on-base percentage of .609. Reed also pitched six innings with four strikeouts against Akron on Friday.

 

National Pitcher

Kevin Ziomek (Amherst, Mass.)

Vanderbilt junior left-hander

 

Ziomek tossed his first collegiate complete game, allowing one hit in a 9-0 win over UIC. He recorded a career-high 15 strikeouts and retired 22 of the final 23 batters. Ziomek fanned at least one in eight of the nine frames and he struck out two or more in six innings. The lone hit was a single in the second.

Regional Players of the Week

 

Northeast Player

Adam Wayman (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.)

Rider senior third baseman

 

Wayman hit .600 (9 for 15) in four games for the Broncs. He had three doubles, five runs and five RBI in four victories. Wayman walked four times and posted a slugging percentage of .800. Wayman was perfect in the field as well, handling six assist and one putout with no errors.

 

Northeast Pitcher

Mike Bradstreet (Lansdale, Pa.)

Rhode Island senior right-hander

 

Bradstreet pitched a 3-0 shutout against Ohio on Saturday. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh and allowed just two hits in the contest. Bradstreet did not walk a batter and struck out a career-high 10. Bradstreet needed just 98 pitches over the nine innings and faced two batters over the minimum.

 

Southeast Player

Zane Evans (Roswell, Ga.)

Georgia Tech junior catcher

 

Evans batted .579 (11 for 19) in five games with four home runs, eight runs and nine RBI. Evans posted a slugging percentage of 1.212 in five wins. He walked three times and did not strike out, registering an on-base percentage of .636. Evans went 3 for 5 with two homers and five RBI on Tuesday at Georgia Southern.

 

Southeast Pitcher

DJ Johnson (Adel, Ga.)

Mercer junior right-hander

 

Johnson pitched a one-hit shutout against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. Johnson did not walk a batter and struck out four. He needed 111 pitches for the 11-0 victory. Johnson has not surrendered a run in his past two starts and extended his personal consecutive scoreless innings streak to 18.0.

 

Central Player

Forrestt Allday (Friendswood, Texas)

Central Arkansas senior outfielder

 

Allday went 11 for 20 (.550) in five games with a homer, eight runs and eight RBI. He also went 5 for 5 on stolen base attempts in the five victories. Allday went 3 for 5 with a dinger and four RBI against Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday. He was 4 for 5 in a win over Wichita State on Saturday.

 

Central Pitcher

Jordan Hymel (Gramercy, La.)

Southeastern Louisiana senior left-hander

 

Hymel pitched the fifth no-hitter in program history on Sunday in a 9-0 win over Texas Southern and the first since 1979. Hymel walked six, hit one batter and struck out seven. It was his first collegiate complete game and his first victory of the season as he evened his record at 1-1.

 

 

West Player

Austin Byler (Peoria, Ariz.)

Nevada sophomore third baseman

 

Byler batted .615 (8 for 13) in four games with three doubles, three home runs, five runs and 13 RBI. His slugging percentage was 1.538 during the 3-1 week. Byler had a pair of game-winning hits against Holy Cross, a three-run homer in the eighth on Saturday and RBI single in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday.

 

West Pitcher

Mark Appel (Houston, Texas)

Stanford senior right-hander

 

Appel pitched a three-hit shutout against Texas on Friday, a 2-0 victory. Appel carried a no-hitter in the sixth. He walked one and tied his career high with 14 strikeouts. Following a first-inning walk, Appel retired 13 consecutive batters. Appel has recorded double-figure strikeouts in his past two starts.
