The Ohio Valley Conference signed a three-year deal with The Ballpark at Jackson in Jackson, Tenn., to continue holding its baseball championship there, in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The venue is the home of the Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. It has hosted the event for the past four years.

 

Ben Sheets will be a volunteer assistant at ULM. He pitched three seasons for the Warhawks (1997-99) before playing in the Major Leagues from 2001-12. Sheets pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics and Atlanta Braves. He posted 94 victories in 250 big league starts.

 

Mike Huling has been hired as an assistant coach at Bowling Green after serving as a volunteer assistant a year ago. He will work with the outfielders, be responsible for base- running and assist with the hitters. Huling will also help with day-to-day operations, including scouting, travel, recruiting, conditioning and camps. He graduated from Southern Indiana in 2011 and was an assistant at Mishawaka High School in 2012.

 

Jeremy Ison and Matt Davis have joined the staff of head coach Danny Hayden at Miami (Ohio). Ison will be the associate head coach after serving as assistant coach for the past eight seasons with the RedHawks. He was an infielder at Miami from 1998-2001. Ison will be the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator while working with the baseball alumni. Davis will be the pitching coach for the RedHawks after being an assistant at Ohio Dominican the past two seasons. Davis pitched at Ohio State from 2001-03.

 

Kenny Smith is a new assistant coach at High Point after spending the past two seasons at Bethune-Cookman. He played three seasons at UNC Wilmington, helping the Seahawks win the 2006 CAA title. Following graduation, he spent one season at Western Carolina and was named 2007 Southern Conference Player of the Year. He spent two seasons in the Texas Rangers organization before serving as a volunteer assistant at UNC Asheville.

 

Former Georgia State hurler Brandon Kersey has been promoted to director of baseball operations. He was a graduate assistant for the Panthers this past year. Kersey played in 2005 and 2006 at GSU before transferring to Georgia.

 

Mark Fleury returns to North Carolina as an undergraduate assistant. The catcher played three seasons for the Tar Heels (2007-09) and was a fourth-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds. He will work with the catchers and assist with the hitters.

 

Former College of Charleston players Jimmy Holton and Tyler Jackson have joined the Cougar coaching staff as undergraduate assistant coaches. Holton played three seasons at CofC as a catcher. He posted 553 putouts in his career with 68 assists and a fielding percentage of .989. Jackson played first base and was a designated hitter, recording a slugging percentage of .353.
