Florida State sophomore right-hander Mike Compton will miss the 2013 season as he will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Compton was 12-2 in 18 starts as a freshman with a 2.87 ERA. He struck out 64 in 91 innings. click here for full FSU release


Senior pitcher Tyler Joyner has been dismissed from the East Carolina baseball program because of an off-the-field incident last week. Joyner went 6-2 with a 3.01 ERA in 2012. He appeared in 17 games with 12 starts, fanning 68 with 12 walks in 92.2 innings.


Erik Supplee has been named director of baseball operations at Wake Forest. He was pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the past two seasons at Lynchburg College. Supplee also coached at Longwood and Millersville. He pitched at Marist, helping the Red Foxes win the 2005 MAAC title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Members of the Kansas State team will sign autographs on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. on the concourse on the north end of Bramlage Coliseum prior to the men’s basketball game against Texas. The team will be recognized at the second media timeout of the first half.


Florida State will host its 28th annual Leadoff Dinner on Feb. 14 at the Duesenberg Banquet Hall at the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum. A reception begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Head coach Mike Martin will introduce the Seminoles and talk about the upcoming season.


Orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews will speak at Furman’s Upstate Diamond Classic on Feb. 14 at the TD Convention Center. A private reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.


Baylor will have its fifth annual Meet the Team Dinner on Feb. 11 in the Galloway Suite at Floyd Casey Stadium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m. Former Bears Michael Griffin, Ryan LaMotta, Jeff Mandel and Steven White are scheduled to attend.


ULM will hold its Fan Day on Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at Warhawk Field. The team will take batting practice at 4:30 p.m. Coaches and players will meet and greet fans starting at 5:30 p.m., with the opportunity for photos and autographs. The Warhawks will have an intersquad scrimmage at 6:30 p.m.


Virginia’s Step Up to the Plate fundraiser on Feb. 1 is sold out. A record number of tickets were sold for the 11th annual event at the John Paul Jones Arena.
