Lineup Card is a feature highlighting notes from around
college baseball.
Oct. 22-28, 2012
Cody Apthorpe and T.J. Losby will serve as
co-captains for Bowling Green this season. Apthrope, a redshirt
junior, is a captain for the second straight year. The Falcons’
ace for 2012 suffered a season-ending injury on March 30 this
past season. Losby is a junior and was the only Falcon to appear
in every game in 2012. The catcher batted .319 and led the team
with 37 RBI.
UC Irvine will hold its annual Spooktacular
Halloween event on Oct. 31. The Anteaters will practice in full
costume, beginning at 2:45 p.m. on Cicerone Field at Anteater
Ballpark. UCI will entertain San Diego in a fall exhibition on
Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
Arizona State will hold its annual Alumni Game on
Feb. 9 at noon. Later that evening, the ASU Alumni Association
will host a dinner event, “Sun Devil Baseball Legacy:
Celebrating ASU’s 100+ Major Leaguers” at the Tempe Mission Palm
Hotel. A reception and silent auction will precede dinner.
Former Major League pitcher and Texas standout
Roger Clemens will speak at Texas State’s Diamond Club Lead-Off
Dinner on Jan. 26. The fund-raiser will begin with a social
mixer at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner. There will also be a
silent and live auction. Clemens won seven Cy Young Awards and a
pair of World Series titles.
LSU will hold its three-game Purple-Gold World
Series next week at Alex Box Stadium: Oct. 30 at 4 p.m., Nov. 1
at 4 p.m. and Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. Each six-inning game is open to
the public with free admission.
Louisiana-Lafayette will hold its annual Fall
World Series next week at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field: Oct. 30 at 6
p.m., Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. and Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Admission to each
seven-inning game is free.
Florida State tallied seven in the bottom of the
first on its way to a 16-0 exhibition win over the Ontario Blue
Jays on Oct. 22. Stephen McGee led the offense, going 4 for 4
with two doubles, two runs and three RBI. D.J. Stewart was 3 for
4 with a triple, two runs and two RBI for the Seminoles. Starter
Scott Sitz, one of six FSU hurlers, allowed one hit and fanned
four in two innings to earn the victory.
Western Carolina will conclude its fall practice
with the annual Purple & Gold Fall World Series. The three-game
series will be Wednesday at 5 p.m., Friday at 4:15 p.m. and
Saturday at 10 a.m.
Houston will hold its annual Red-White World
Series on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and
Friday (if necessary) at 3:15 p.m. at Cougar Field. All games
are free and open to the public.
South Carolina’s Garnet & Black World Series will
be held this week at Carolina Stadium: Thursday at 3 p.m.,
Friday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. All three contests are
open to the public.
The members of the 2012 UAB baseball team will
receive their Conference USA Championship rings on Nov. 3. The
event will be held in the Hill Alumni Center Auditorium at 4
p.m. and is open to the public.
