Changes have been made in the schedule for the
Big East-Big Ten Challenge. On Sunday, Feb. 19, Iowa and West
Virginia will meet at 9 a.m. instead of 1 p.m. The Michigan-West
Virginia contest will start at 12:30 p.m. The Northwestern-Seton
Hall game will be played at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in
Dunedin at 1 p.m.
The New England Collegiate Baseball League
announced that the Old Orchard Beach and North Shore teams are
departing, pursuing different directions. The 10 remaining teams
are Danbury, Holyoke, Keene, Laconia, Mystic, New Bedford,
Newport, North Adams, Sanford and Vermont. This will be the 19th
season for the NECBL.
Former Kentucky standouts Andrew Albers and Chris
Bisson will be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame
on June 23 in St. Mary’s, Ontario, as members of the 2011
Canadian National Team, which one the first gold medal in
national history in the 2011 Pan American Games.
Arkansas will have its final three scrimmages
this weekend at Baum Stadium: 2:30 p.m. on Friday and noon on
both Saturday and Sunday. All are free and open to the public.
Three-time
All-American Danny Hultzen (right) has committed $100,000 to the
Virginia baseball program for improvements at Davenport Field.
Hultzen was the second overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft by the
Seattle Mariners. The left-hander was 32-5 with a 2.08 ERA in
three seasons with the Cavaliers. He owns the program record for
career victories and career strikeouts (395).
Oregon State will have 11 affiliates on the
Beaver Sports Network for baseball. Four stations (KPOJ 620-AM
Portland, KEJO 1240-AM Corvallis, KICE 940-AM Bend, KSKR 1490-AM
Roseburg) will carry all 56 regular season games and all
postseason contests.
Corey Miller fanned five in five innings with no
walks to pick up the win as Pepperdine defeated its alumni 9-2
on Feb. 4. David Harris had a two-run homer to account for the
alumni runs. Following the game, 2011 graduate Trent Diedrich
was honored at the John Scolinos Award Dinner.
Georgia Southern will hold a free Little Eagles
Baseball Camp and Meet the Eagles autograph session on Feb. 11
at J.I. Clements Stadium. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the
clinic runs from 10 to 11 a.m. for youth ages 4-14. The
autograph session will follow the clinic. The Eagles will have
three scrimmages this weekend, with a 6 p.m. start on Friday and
2:30 p.m. starts on both Saturday and Sunday.
Elon will have 20 regular season contests
broadcast on 920 AM WPCM as well as three sessions of Elon
Baseball Live. Game broadcasts will begin with contests at South
Carolina on Feb. 24 and Feb. 26.
Fresno State will hold its Alumni Game on Feb. 11
at 2 p.m. at Beiden Field. Recent alums expected to return are
Jordan Ribera, Danny Muno, Greg Gonzalez and Brennan Gowens.
Oregon State will hold three scrimmages this
week: Tuesday and Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. All
scrimmages are at Goss Stadium and open to the public.
Former Pirate baseball player George Ramos Curvy
is one of six members of the Seton Hall University Athletics
Hall of Fame Class of 2012. The Hall of Fame ceremony will be
held on June 11.
Florida State will hold Fan Day on Feb. 12 at
Dick Howser Stadium. An autograph session will begin at 11:45
a.m. inside Haggard Plaza. Fans are invited to stay for a
scrimmage at 2 p.m.
