Lineup Card
Lineup Card is a feature highlighting notes from around
college baseball.
June 1-6, 2010
Louisville
head coach Dan McDonnell (left) has been suspended for three
games for his confrontation with an umpire in the Cardinals’
elimination game at the Big East Tournament on May 29. He will
miss the first three games of the Louisville Regional.
Assistants Chris Lemonis and Roger Williams will serve as
co-head coaches during McDonnell’s suspension.
Alabama junior David Kindred will miss the
Atlanta Regional after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Kindred did not play in the final two games of the SEC
Tournament after experiencing shortness of breath and chest
pains. The disease was caught in the early stages and the
probability of a full and complete recovery is very high.
Kindred did accompany the team to Atlanta. Treatment will begin
next week and could take four to six months. Kindred plans to
attend Alabama this fall and join the team for fall workouts. He
is on pace to graduate in December. Kindred plans to enroll in
graduate school and play for the Crimson Tide in 2011 for his
senior season. He batted .314 this season with three home runs
and 18 RBI in 34 games.
ESPNU will televise all games from the Coral
Gables and Fullerton Regionals. We have not heard of regional
coverage yet for the other 14 regionals. We will add them here
when we hear.
There are eight Division I schools this year
which will have participated in the NCAA Baseball Tournament,
the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and a football bowl game:
California, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech,
Minnesota, Texas and Texas A&M. Only four schools have
accomplished this each of the past two years: Clemson, Florida
State, Minnesota and Texas.
The 30 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award
have been announced. The list will be trimmed to five finalists
on June 8 and the award will be announced on July 13 at MLB’s
All-Star FanFest in Anaheim, Calif.
