Air Force head coach Mike Hutcheon has resigned
effective at the end of this season. Hutcheon is in his seventh
season leading the Falcons and will be reassigned within the
department for the two years remaining on his contract. Air
Force is 7-26 overall through April 16 and 1-7 in the Mountain
West Conference.
The
10 finalists have been named for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award:
Daniel Bibona of UC Irvine (left), Stephen Cardullo of Florida
State, Blake Dean of LSU, Mike Donato of Massachusetts, Jim
Klocke of Southeast Missouri State, Cory Dovanda of Ohio State,
Tyler Lyons of Oklahoma State, Matt Payton of Western Kentucky,
Tony Plagman of Georgia Tech and David Towarnicky of Appalachian
State. Nationwide voting will continue until May 31 at www.
seniorclassaward.com and will be combined with votes from
coaches, media and sponsors to determine with winner.
Kansas junior reliever Brett Bochy will miss the
rest of the 2010 campaign after undergoing successful Tommy John
surgery last week. Bochy was 2-0 in 12 relief stints with five
saves. He allowed two earned runs in 23 innings for a 0.78 ERA.
The son of San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy, he plans to
rehab in the Bay Area this summer.
Kentucky sophomore right-hander Alex Meyer is
expected to miss three to four weeks with mononucleosis. Meyer
was 4-2 with a 7.30 ERA with nine appearances and eight starts.
He fanned 52 in 40.1 innings.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends
of Leonard Alley, who passed away earlier this week. He formerly
worked in the Sports Information Office at Virginia Commonwealth
University and was the baseball contact. He was also the
official scorer for the Richmond Braves for more than 30 years.
There are 95 nominees for the College World
Series Legends Team, which will be recognized this year at the
