Neu is New Head
Coach at Pacific
Mike Neu, former California pitching coach, has
been named head coach at Pacific.
A native of Napa, Calif., Neu was pitching
coach for the Golden Bears for the past four seasons. The Cal
pitching staff posted a team ERA of 3.03 in 2015, fourth in
the Pac-12. Neu had six pitchers drafted while with the Golden
Bears.
Prior to his time at Cal, Neu was head coach at
Diablo Valley College from 2009-11. He had a record of 87-41
(.680) with two Big 8 Conference titles in three seasons. His
2011 team was ranked No. 1 in Northern California for four
weeks and his pitching staff paced the California Community
Colleges with a 2.13 ERA.
In 1998, Neu went 15-0 at Sacramento City
College with a 1.44 ERA. He had 139 strikeouts in 108 innings.
Neu transferred to Miami (Fla.) and helped the Hurricanes win
the College World Series in 1999. He had 110 punchouts in 67
innings, leading the country in strikeouts per nine innings at
14.8.
Neu spent two seasons in
the Major Leagues, pitching for the Oakland A’s and the
Florida Marlins.
Neu replaces Ed Sprague,
who resigned on June 30. The Tigers were 14-37 overall this
past season and 10-17 in West Coast Conference play.
