Mike Neu, former California pitching coach, has been named head coach at Pacific.

A native of Napa, Calif., Neu was pitching coach for the Golden Bears for the past four seasons. The Cal pitching staff posted a team ERA of 3.03 in 2015, fourth in the Pac-12. Neu had six pitchers drafted while with the Golden Bears.

Prior to his time at Cal, Neu was head coach at Diablo Valley College from 2009-11. He had a record of 87-41 (.680) with two Big 8 Conference titles in three seasons. His 2011 team was ranked No. 1 in Northern California for four weeks and his pitching staff paced the California Community Colleges with a 2.13 ERA.

In 1998, Neu went 15-0 at Sacramento City College with a 1.44 ERA. He had 139 strikeouts in 108 innings. Neu transferred to Miami (Fla.) and helped the Hurricanes win the College World Series in 1999. He had 110 punchouts in 67 innings, leading the country in strikeouts per nine innings at 14.8.

Neu spent two seasons in the Major Leagues, pitching for the Oakland A’s and the Florida Marlins.

Neu replaces Ed Sprague, who resigned on June 30. The Tigers were 14-37 overall this past season and 10-17 in West Coast Conference play.
