Swanson Leads Late
Signings, Funkhouser to Return
Vanderbilt shortstop Dansby Swanson, the top
overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, signed with the Arizona
Diamondbacks prior to the deadline.
First-round pitchers Walker Buhler of
Vanderbilt (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Nathan Kirby of Virginia
(Milwaukee Brewers) also signed before the deadline.
Pitcher Kyle Funkhouser, a first-round pick of
the Dodgers, did not sign and will return to Louisville for
his senior season. Right-hander Kyle Cody, a second-round pick
of the Minnesota Twins, will return to Kentucky.
A pair of second-round high school pitchers did
not sign and will attend college. Brady Singer of Eustis
(Fla.) HS will head to Florida, while Jonathan Hughes of
Flowery Branch (Ga.) HS will go to Georgia Tech.
